A group of youths carrying arms and ammunition today created terror in Dhabawala village, one of the venues of the ongoing Punjab Youth Congress elections.

They were confronted by Fatehgarh Churian Congress MLA Tripit Rajinder Singh Bajwa, who then called the police.

The police impounded a Verna car belonging to the youths. The police seized four fire arms from the vehicle along with 50 cartridges. The occupants of yet another car, which had nine weapons in its boot, managed to flee.

Tripit Bajwa said when his supporters told him that two cars loaded with arms and ammunition were parked at the poll booth at the Guru Gobind Singh Academy near Dhabawala village, he informed the police.

Inderbir Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, said two persons had been arrested and an FIR had been registered at the Sadar police station. Questions are being raised at the manner in which Government College, Kala Afghana, was made a poll booth. “I will hold an inquiry as to how a government institute was used to hold elections,” said Abhinav Trikha, Deputy Commissioner.
