A 32-member team of administrative probationary officers from Bangladesh is on a learning tour to Uttarakhand. The probationary officers are getting detailed information and firsthand experience about the Indian administrative set-up and system.

Chief Development Officer Ranjana said the Bangladesh officers were taken to the District Collectorate office at Roshanabad and apprised about its functioning. The CDO added the probationary officers were apprised of various social welfare schemes being run by the Central and state governments.

“Bangladesh officers were made aware of the Indian administrative system from tehsil to the District Magistrate office. They said the Indian administrative system was much more accountable and transparent. We will also be taking them to rural areas to show them implementation of various schemes and government projects,” Ranjana said.

Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mohammed Nasir said there was not provincial civil service set up in Bangladesh. A District Magistrate is called Deputy Commissioner in Bangladesh and Sub-Divisional Magistrate is known as a Divisional Commissioner, he added.

The delegation was briefed about the arrangements made during the Maha Kumbh in 2010 when around 1.63 crore pilgrims thronged the pilgrim city. They were also apprised of the preparations being made by the mela administration for the Ardh Kumbh next year.

Police officials briefed them about the security arrangements and crowd management methods for these two fairs.
