Bailable warrants against Garhwal commissioner

DEHRADUN:Uttarakhand High Court on Monday issued bailable warrants against Garhwal Commissioner Dilip Jawalkar for failing to appear before the court in a matter pertaining to the alleged misuse of government funds.

Uttarakhand High Court on Monday issued bailable warrants against Garhwal Commissioner Dilip Jawalkar for failing to appear before the court in a matter pertaining to the alleged misuse of government funds.

Pukhraj, a resident of Rajasthan, had filed a writ petition stating that the stairs constructed at Hari-ki-Pauri in Haridwar during the Ardh Kumbh Mela that connected Sanjay bridge and Ravi Das temple, had damaged the temple. 

The petitioner had also alleged that the stairs caused inconvenience to the public and prevented them from visiting the temple. 

The petitioner said temple stairs were constructed during the Ardh Kumbh Mela, but an order was passed again for the construction of stairs at the cost of 

Rs 42 lakh. 

He alleged that the construction was damaging the temple and termed the entire exercise as wasteful and that it should be stopped immediately. 

After hearing the case on June 15, the division Bench of Justices Rajiv Sharma and Lok Pal Singh had directed the Commissioner of Garhwal to appear personally on June 18. 

But, Jawalkar failed to turn up at the court resultant to which bailable warrants was issued against him on Monday.
