Accusing state BJP government of being anti farmer, state Congress on Thursday staged a Janakrosh rally at Roorkie that falls in farmer predominant district of Haridwar. The rally that started from Roorkie Municipal Corporation concluded at Roorkie tehsil and had the presence of a large number of Congress workers, who held placards and raised slogans against the state BJP government.

Earlier addressing the rally, state Congress president Pritam Singh accused the ruling BJP government in the state of failing on its promise of waiving the farmers’ loans in the state. “The BJP, during the Assembly election campaign, had said that on coming to power in the state, it will waive the loans of farmers. It has been much more than year but the BJP is least concerned about the welfare of farmers, what to say of loan waiver”, Pritam pointed out.

Pritam reminded that the incumbent state BJP government had even failed to pay the sugarcane dues to the farmers. He asserted that prices of petrol were soaring with each passing day and it is the farmers and also the common man, who are the worst affected due to the rising inflation, which is also linked to rising petrol prices.

Former CM Harish Rawat said the BJP governments only believed in rhetoric. He asserted that Uttarakhand BJP government had failed on all fronts and farmers, poor, youth and every section of society was suffering.

Opposition leader in the state Assembly Indira Hridayesh said the way a lady teacher was humiliated in the Chief Minister’s Janata Durbar proved the ‘anti-women’ mind set of BJP.
