BJP to raise issue of ‘labourers’ exploitation’ at SIDCUL

The BJP will be raising the issue of exploitation of labourers at the industrial estate of SIDCUL and PITCUL in the state.

Uttarakhand BJP in charge Shyam Jaju, speaking on the sidelines of a convention organised by the labour cell, said despite concessions and sops being given to industries to set up their firms in the hill state, a majority of factories are not adhering to the rules and regulations.

Shyam Jaju directed labour cell office-bearers to make a list of such factories where there is violation of labour laws and exploitation of workers, which will then be forwarded to the Union Labour Minister.

Alleging that the Congress-led state government was pro-capitalist, Jaju said the state government was only concerned about corporate benefits, but labourers or employees do not figure on their priority list.

“Labour laws were violated. This was when Chief Minister Harish Rawat had held Union Minister for State Labour portfolio in the UPA-II government. This exposes the pro-capitalist approach of the Congress government, while the BJP has been always been pro-poor,” said Jaju.

Legislator Aadesh Chauhan said he had been raising the labour exploitation issue in the Assembly sessions, but the state government had not taken any stringent step in this regard.

Labour cell state president Prakash Habola said that in all districts of the state, the labour cell committee will be expanded so that their issues can be raised effectively.

Woman leader Sanjana Sharma raised the issue of women employees being forced to work in night shifts or late at night by employers.

Sanjeev Chaudhari, Harjeet Singh, Sunita Sharma, Ashwani Chauhan, Sanjay, Devkinandan Purohit, Sadanand Mishra, Sunil Kangda, Pankaj Kumar, Kamla Joshi, Ashok Giri, Vikas Mishra and Anil Teshwar were among those present at the convention.
