Chandigarh, September 9

The arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the city on September 11 is not likely to affect the domestic flights here, according to the local airport authorities.

The PM is expected to arrive in the city at 9.40 am. Though there are no flights scheduled between 8.55 am and 10.45 am, the authorities have asked various airlines operating from the domestic airport to intimate the passengers to come well before time. The flights scheduled between 1.20 pm and 2.50 pm may get disrupted for about 25 minutes subject to the departure of the PM from the city. Three Mumbai and Srinagar-bound flights operate from here during this time. “There is no cancellation or rescheduling of flights. Due to protocol reasons, the flights may get disrupted for a maximum of 25 minutes, subject to the movement of the PM. We have asked the airlines to intimate their passengers to reach the domestic airport well in time to avoid any hassle on the road on September 11,” said MS Duhan, director of the airport.

Chandigarh, September 9

Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the city for around three hours, the authorities of various schools in the city are approaching the Chandigarh Administration to know whether or not any orders have been issued on the opening and closing hours of schools. The authorities are worried as the school closing hours, especially for junior classes, are likely to coincide with the time when the PM’s convoy is expected to go back to the airport. The movement of school buses in the northern part of the city could be affected. However, UT officials said no decision on passing any orders on the opening and closing hours of the schools had been taken so far.
