With a view to encouraging more youth to avail employment opportunities under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), the Haryana Government is considering to increase daily wages given under the scheme by Rs 70 to Rs 75 per person. Currently, a remuneration of Rs 259 per person per day is being given, which is the highest in the country.

Development and Panchayat Minister Om Prakash Dhankar informed this today while presiding over the third meeting of the State Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee of the Rural Development Department.

It was informed in the meeting that the remuneration given under the MNREGS in Haryana was increased from Rs 251 to Rs 259 per person per day on April 1, 2016, which is the highest in the country. The records of job cards, muster roll, employment register, cashbook and complaint booklet were maintained and these had been linked with the MIS.

In 2015-16, 92,270 works were initiated under the MNREGS, of which 83,773 have been completed and a total of 48.48 lakh work days were created. Dhankar directed officials to prepare a chart of schemes according to priority before preparing first list of development works. — TNS
