The annual Shravan Kanwar pilgrimage commenced here today with Lord Shiva devotees arriving in large numbers from various parts of the country to fetch holy Ganga jal from the sanctum sanctorum of Braham Kund, Har-Ki-Pauri and adjacent Ganga ghats.

Elaborate security and infrastructure-related arrangements have been made by the mela administration for kanwariyas.

The kanwariyas were seen plying on NH-58 and NH-72 on foot to fetch holy Ganga jal throughout the day.

Mela administration in charge Harish Chand Semwal inspected the facilities and inaugurated a ‘bhandara’ (free eatery) at Daulatpur today.

After performing the rituals, langar (community kitchen) was opened for the kanwariyas where they will be served food and tea by the mela administration on daily basis.

Temporary shelters have also been set up for kanwariyas to take rest during the pilgrimage.
