Minerva academy bag top honours

Minerva Academy Football Club defeated Liberty Football Club in the last match of Senior State Football Championship and bagged title. The championship was being held at Football Stadium, Sector 17.

On the concluding day, Minerva started off well and played an attacking game from the very first minute.

In the 5th minute striker Akshay gave a one- touch pass to Krishna Pandit, who shot calmly to defeat Liberty’s custodian.

In no time, half back Arshdeep doubled the joy as he marked a brilliantly positioned half volley strike to surprise the rival’s custodian. In the 20th minute of the play, right in striker Tejinder Singh put the score to 3-0. He dribbled past two defenders and easily beat the helpless keeper.

After the breather, Minerva Academy played possession soccer to seal their easy win. The side remained unbeaten in the entire tournament. Earlier, in the first league match of the day, Minerva Sharks FC held Veterans’ football club at a solitary goal. After both the teams played head to head game, till the 42nd minute, Neeraj Anand of Minerva Sharks unleashed a powerful shot, deflected unmannerly by Jatinder of Veterans into his own team’s frame, defeating experienced custodian Mukesh. After sealing the first half at 1-0, the leaders maintained the lead throughout next 45 minutes and won the match.

The side secured runners-up spot in the championship. While the Liberty Football Club finished third in the championship. The winners and runners-up were honoured with individual prizes. Sandeep of DAV Club was awarded as the best player of the championship

Sandesh Jhingan honoured

The Chandigarh Football Association honoured Sandesh Jhingan with a token memento. 22-year old city’s soccer prodigy is currently playing for senior Indian football team, under-23 Indian team and also marking his stakes in Indian Super League (ISL) while representing Kerala Blasters. He was adjudged as the best emerging player of the ISL-2014 (last year).
