Karnal, June 26

District BJP president and Nilokheri MLA Bhagwan Das Kabirpanthi has created a controversy with his remark that councillors are ‘commission agents’.

Not only the Opposition, but party councillors have condemned the remark and sought an apology from him. However, MP Ashwini Chopra backed Kabirpanthi and said that he had said nothing wrong and nobody should involve in corruption.

In a meeting of the party workers here yesterday, Kabirpanthi said: “Some of the councillors think that they are supreme and no one can question them and they are minting money through commission. It would not be tolerated at any cost.”

“Our workers are quite vigilant and keeping a vigil on development works and they have unearthed low standard work being done in the Municipal Corporation (MC) limit,” he added.

Meanwhile, party leader and Senior Deputy Mayor Krishan Garg and Councillor Sonia Pandit objected to his remark and left the meeting halfway.

They also demanded that the MLA should disclose the names of the councillors who minted money instead of blaming anybody.

Garg said that it was very unfortunate that the district president referred the councillors as corrupt.

Deputy Mayor Manoj Wadhwa criticised the remark and said that he should produce evidence to prove his remark. He said that the MLA should offer an apology for it. A person on such post should restrain to comment on anybody, he added.
