Threatened by militants, offices of three telecom companies in Baramulla’s Sopore town continued to remain shut for the third consecutive week, even as the police today claimed to have recovered the communication equipment installed by militants on a mobile tower.

A senior police officer in north Kashmir said the equipment was being utilised by militants to improve their communication network.

“We have questioned many people and are looking for the militants who had installed it,” Garib Dass, DIG, north Kashmir, told The Tribune.

“We are looking into various angles. At this point, we may not be able to tell more as the investigation is on,” he said.

Sources said a group of militants on May 1 had threatened the staff of three cellular companies in the town, after a communication device, they had installed on a mobile tower went missing.

The equipment was installed on a mobile tower at the Badami Bagh, the sources said.

Sources said militants had installed the communication device to avoid tracking by the security forces.
