The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Jammu and Kashmir Government to investigate the murder complaint against Deputy Superintendent of Police Yasir Qadri without suspending or arresting him.

A Bench comprising Justices PC Ghose and Amitava Roy also asked the police to submit the investigation report to the court on August 12.

In the meanwhile, the Bench stayed Jammu and Kashmir High Court’s order for registration of a fresh FIR against the DSP on a complaint by a man whose 26-year-old son Shabir Ahmad Mir was allegedly shot dead by the police officer.

Srinagar Judicial Magistrate had ordered registration of a fresh FIR on July 18. The high court had rejected the state government's plea against the magistrate's order, forcing it to approach the Supreme Court.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said the murder complaint would be investigated as part of the first FIR on violent incidents following the killing of Hizbul Mujahedeen commander Burhan Wani.

Fresh FIR would demoralise the police forces, which was the intention of the separatist elements, the Attorney General said.
