Minister for Ecology and Environment Choudhary Lal Singh today urged the Centre to recruit five persons from each village along the International Border in the Central Armed Police Forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police to effectively deal with the problem of cross-border terrorism.

In his address at the Shaheedi Diwas rally at Ram Leela Ground here, he also requested the Central government to pay special attention to the Kandi belt of the Jammu region and launch a special recruitment drive for the youth belonging to the districts of the Kandi areas.

The programme was organized by Lal Singh to pay tributes to security personnel who attained martyrdom in the line of duty. He also raised the issue of discrimination against the kin of martyrs in recruitment in the Police Department, saying that it was being done to discourage them from joining the department.

Lal Singh also urged the people in general and the government in particular to remember the sacrifices of the soldiers and pay homage to them.

“We have a tendency to forget the sacrifices of our real heroes who died protecting our nation,” he said. “This is high time that we reach out to the families of the martyrs,” he said.

The Ecology and Environment Minister hailed the people of Kathua for making Shaheedi Diwas a memorable event for the families of the martyrs of the police and Army.
