Chandigarh, February 16
While the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation was at the bottom in the recently released Economic Survey, especially in terms of generating its own revenue, the city MP, Kirron Kher, today said that residents should pay their taxes.
MP Kirron Kher, while replying to a query on the imposition of new taxes, says, “We should pay our share of taxes for water and property. We should pay for parking, like we pay in other cities”
On the hike of water tariff, paid parking and property tax, Kher said, “Paid parking is everywhere in the world. You need to maintain parking lots, which is a must. I think people in the Municipal Corporation and other committees are sensible enough. I am sure they will take a decision, which will not put more burden on the public.
The MC will have to increase its revenue generation”.
Cong-ruled MC failed to utilise Budget
MP Kirron Kher said it was the Congress-ruled Municipal Corporation in the past which failed to utilise the Budget. She said there were Congress Mayors in the MC and they did not spend money on projects. It was the BJP, which initiated the project to bring additional water from Kajauli to the city, Kher said.
To take up issue of Tribune flyover
As the UT Administration has not got a single bid for hiring consultant for the Tribune flyover project, MP Kirron Kher said she had again taken up the issue with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, to speak to the Ministry’s empanelled consultants to come forward for the Tribune flyover project.
MC at the bottom in economic survey
In the recent economic survey, on a scale of eight, Mumbai and Hyderabad’s urban local bodies had got a perfect score in transparency, accountability and participation. Chandigarh is at the bottom (scored two) among 21 cities presented in the Economic Survey.
