Chandigarh, November 30

The rival faction comprising suspended associations that were barred from fighting the recent elections for Chandigarh Olympic Association (COA) office bearers, today ‘formed’ their own COA today without any intimation in the public domain. The rival faction alleged irregularities in the functioning of the current body.

Interestingly, this group alleged that the existing COA has not issued the Electoral College or the list of affiliated members for its elections, held recently on November 22. Notably, there was no returning officer of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) or the Chandigarh Sports Council at the rival faction’s meeting where the office bearers were elected. “We had decided in the meeting that if COA holds its election, we will have our parallel COA,” said Vijaypal Singh, general secretary of the ‘new COA’.  When asked how it will benefit the players as they have done the same thing as done by the existing COA, Singh commented that they would plan this out soon. “We did not want to leak this development in the public domain. So the step was taken behind closed doors. We are raising our voice against the existing COA,” he said. The ‘new COA’ will be headed by PS Gill. The new faction also promised to organise state games for the benefir of local players.
