Six laptops, six mobiles and two wallets have been stolen from two hostels on the PEC campus in Sector 12. Two suspects have been caught on CCTV cameras installed in one of the hostels.
Sources said three laptops, three mobile phones and two wallets were stolen from the boys’ hostel of the architecture college.
The theft was reported from Corbu Hostel where students of the architecture college, research scholars of the PGI and students of the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), Sector 26, reside.
The sources said the theft was reported between 6.10 am and 6.40 am. Two youths were captured on CCTV cameras installed in the hostel while entering and leaving. The items belonged to four students residing in different rooms.
Lokesh Kumar, one of the victims and student of the CCET, said his laptop was stolen. Abhishek Kumar, another student, lost his smart phone.
Vikas Kumar, a research scholar at the PGI, lost his mobile phone, a laptop and wallet containing Rs 1,600. Harish Kumar, another student, said Rs 500 was stolen from his wallet.
A laptop and an iPhone of Harmehtap Singh Bal, a student the architecture college, was stolen.
Similarly, three laptops and three mobile phones were stolen from Aravali Hostel where students of PEC reside. The valuables belonged to four students and were stolen from two rooms.
The sources said being summer, students often kept the doors of their rooms open for ventilation, which made these easy targets for thieves.
Inspector Narinder Patial, SHO of the Sector 11 police station, said they had procured the CCTV footage of the suspects. “We are hopeful of nabbing the culprits,” he said.
A DDR has been lodged at the Sector 11 police station.
Not the first incident
Similar incidents of thefts have been reported from hostels earlier as well.
