Students of Achievers Home Public School, Jagjeetpur in Kankhal, here today were informed about the potent threat of swine flu and preventive measures.

Principal Dr S Sarkar told students at the school assembly that prevention was the best solution to tackle swine flu. He advised students to opt for proven ayurvedic preventive methods such as use of basil, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, jaggery, javitri, and tilpatra, for tackling the HINI virus.

“The use of these ayurvedic things and methods, which are usually available in every kitchen, strengthens our immunity and guards us against swine flu,” he said.

School managers Sachin Ahluwalia and Nitin Ahluwalia said the use of masks had been made compulsory for all students and teaching and non-teaching staff members on the school premises. The Achievers Home school management is providing masks at the school gate.

Programme coordinator Amita Ohri told students to refrain from shaking hands, and touching nose and eyes, as these were the usual ways the HINI virus spreads. The students were told to keep handkerchiefs, towels and hand sanitizers. The parents of the students were asked to take preventive measures against swine flu, which has claimed five lives in Haridwar district in the past few weeks.

Meanwhile, Dr LD Pant, in charge of the integrated disease surveillance team of the district hospital, today said the district health authorities were keeping a tab on suspected swine flu patients.

Dr Pant said an isolation ward had been set up at the Chaman Rai District Hospital and the health Department had formed teams, which are visiting homes of swine flu patients to ensure the virus did not spread.

Hemanti, a nurse of Mela hospital, who has been diagnosed with swine flu, is recuperating at the district hospital and her condition is said to be normal.
