Dehradun, November 18

The Doon School won the AC Deb Memorial Inter-School English Debate Competition, held at the Raja Rammohan Roy Academy here today. The motion for discussion was ‘Despite the world becoming a global village, humans are still lonely’.

School principal S Kaliraman and vice-principal Dr Preeti Saxena accorded a cordial welcome to the chief guest, Wg Cdr (retd) SK Sharma, a member of the local managing committee of the school. The debate is held annually at the school in memory of its founder Late AC Deb.

Seven participating teams engaged in an impressive exchange of words and reasons where they not only defended but also argued against the motion.

The first prize, a ‘rolling trophy’, was awarded to The Doon School, represented by Shaurya Aggarwal and Kartik Sabbaiyah.

The award for the first runners-up was bagged by Himalayan Public School, represented by Aishwarya Vaid and Shivani Pant. The second runner-up award was jointly handed to The Cambridge School, Indirapuram, represented by Shikhar Yadav, Ananita Sawhney, and Raja Rammohan Roy Academy, represented by Ayush Negi and Ishika Jain.

Wing Cdr Sharma gave away the trophies and certificates to the winners for showcasing outstanding performance. He said knowledge and communication skills were the most important ingredients which one needed to enhance to survive in the present competitive scenario.

The principal congratulated the winners and appreciated the endeavours of the staff for their guidance and support.
