Two schoolboys drown in canal

YAMUNANAGAR: Two students drowned in the Western Yamuna Canal at the Hathnikund barrage in Yamunanagar district today.

Two students drowned in the Western Yamuna Canal at the Hathnikund barrage in Yamunanagar district today. They were identified as Sehjeb and Ali.

According to information, Sehjeb, Ali, Abdul and Tosik, residents of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, came to the barrage on two motorcycles.

Sources said Sehjeb tried to drink water from the canal, but fell into the water. Ali fell into the canal in an attempt to save his friend.

Hearing the screams of the students, labourers carrying out repairs at the barrage tried to rescue them, but in vain. Later, bodies of the two boys were taken out of the water. Sehjeb was a student of Class IX and Ali of Class XI. Abdul is studying in Class XI and Tosik in Class X. All students were dressed in school uniform.

Om Prakash, Assistant Sub-Inspector at the Khizrabad police station, said that the bodies were handed over to their next of kin. — TNS
