Karnal, June 9

The Municipal Corporation will establish a waste-to-energy plant with a capacity to generate about 1 MW of power on the outskirts of the city.

The energy from the plant will be used for lighting a new park in Ram Nagar here. The plant will also generate the CNG and bio-fertilizer, which will be used for the MC vehicles and agriculture.

Sumedha Kataria, Commissioner, MC, said a MoU had been signed between the MC and Growdiesel, a company in the field of converting all types of waste to clean fuel. Kataria said: “If the MC gets good results, a big plant will be established in the Solid Waste Management Plant which receives around 150 tonnes of garbage daily.” Atul Saxena, CEO, Growdiesel said the company is likely to complete the plant by the end of this month. —TNS
