Chandigarh, March 25

Work started today on the first phase of the World Herbal Forest being developed in Morni Hills by the Haryana Government. Acharya Balkrishna from Patanjali, aided by a 40-member team of specialists, has so far identified 465 different types of plants.

In all, about 1,000 medicinal plants of different kinds would be identified and planted here.

Speaking on the occasion, Balkrishna said development of the herbal forest would generate employment opportunities for local people. Ginger, turmeric and ‘harad’ are grown in large quantity in the area and his company would try to purchase the produce at fair price.

He said Patanjali would not take any land on lease in Morni for the project. Local farmers would be engaged in farming activities and the area would be developed with nurseries of medicinal plants to make it a centre of attraction to the entire world.

“Certain varieties of medicinal plants which grow only during the monsoon would also be identified. These are available in Morni alone and are not found in any part of the world,” he added.
