Zee owner Subhash Chandra eyes RS seat

Political circles here are abuzz with the possibility of Zee group owner Subhash Chandra entering the Rajya Sabha from Haryana.

Chandra, an opponent of the Jindals –got active in politics just before the Assembly elections. Instead of joining the poll fray, he put his weight behind BJP candidate Kamal Gupta. Gupta succeeded in defeating Congress candidate Savitri Jindal .

Political sources said Chandra had been mulling options to contest the Rajya Sabha elections as two seats would get vacated. While the BJP is set to re-send Union minister Birender Singh to Parliament from one seat, a contest is on the cards for the other seat as none of the parties- the BJP, the Congress or the INLD — can elect the second member without the rival party’s support.

The sources said that the Zee group owner had good relationship with the INLD as he had campaigned for the INLD candidate in Kurukshetra in the Lok Sabha poll.

Moreover, he is reportedly to have discussed the issue of the Rajya Sabha seat with the INLD leadership some time earlier.
