With procurement of wheat by the government agencies almost over, nearly 30 per cent of the produce is still to be purchased in Faridabad and Palwal districts.

Sources said nearly 4.84 lakh tonnes of wheat had been procured in both the districts till Thursday and nearly 1.5 lakh tonnes of the produce was awaiting procurement as harvesting was still going on at several places.

“I have harvested only 30 per cent of my total crop standing on nearly 100 acres,” said Sunil Bisla, a farmer from Dayalpur village in the district. He said the first lot of the produce taken to Mohna mandi in Faridabad was awaiting procurement. Bisla said that he had been informed that purchase had been stopped by the government agencies and he was worried.

Ruing that nearly 150 quintals of wheat was still not procured, Surender Singh of Banchari village in Palwal district said that there were large numbers of farmers who were still to sell their produce.

Charging the authorities of purchasing wheat of traders from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, Palwal MLA Karan Dalal said that nearly 40 to 50 per cent of the local produce had not been procured. Nearly 1.11 lakh tonnes of wheat in Faridabad and over 3.73 lakh tonnes in Palwal had been procured so far, he added.

Admitting that purchase has been almost over, AK Mishra, Area Manager, FCI, said that fresh purchase would be done after the request from the Market Committee.
