A total of 70 samples of milk products and sweets were collected for test by officials of the Food and Safety Department by Wednesday evening during the ongoing drive against adulteration launched this month. The process is likely to continue till Diwali.

“We started the drive in the first week of October coinciding with Navratras. The campaign will continue till Diwali, when the total number of samples is likely to cross the figure of 100,” says Prithvi Singh, District Food Safety Officer.

He said the reports of the samples were unlikely to come before Diwali. The samples were being sent to two government laboratories located at Karnal and Chandigarh. As many as 20 out of the total 90 samples collected last year in this period had failed, which attracted a penalty ranging from Rs 1,00,00 to Rs 50,000 per case.

The samples collected on Wednesday were of milk cake, paneer, gulab jamun and sohan papri.
