Gurugram, September 14

Amid the ongoing hue and cry over lackadaisical attitude of school authorities towards the safety of students, a 9-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her teacher in a local government school here.

The incident happened in the evening when the victim had gone to play with her friends in the grounds of government primary school Prem Nagar Ki Dhani near Kasan village.

There are two teachers in this school while one of them leaves after conclusion of the school hours the accused identified as 52-year-old Ram Chander had been staying in a room there.

When the children went to play there he shooed away the others but made the victim, a Class 4 student, stay.

He then took her to his room and assaulted her.

The child started crying and rushed back home but the accused threatened her to stay quiet. She reached home wailing in pain and told her mother.

Enraged, the mother, accompanied by villagers, went to the school but he had already fled.

She then called the police. The police after registering an FIR under Sections 6 (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) act arrested the accused.

A medical examination confirmed the assault.

The accused has according to sources confessed to the crime and has been sent to judicial custody.

The villagers are meanwhile up in arms demanding action against authorities who allowed the teacher to stay illegally in the school.

“We want security audit of schools, including the private ones. Our children too are vulnerable,” said a villager.
