The Kalayat police have registered a case of murder against farmer Naresh Kumar of Kharak Pandva village in the district.

The case was registered on the complaint of Vidya Devi, widow of Jitender, a Dalit labourer whose body was found on May 15.

The widow alleged that her husband worked at the farm of Naresh who allegedly abused and thrashed him when he reached his fields late on May 13. The accused also demanded his money back which he had advanced to the deceased. The victim sought some time to repay the money. However, the accused gave him time till 5pm the same day. As the deceased could not arrange the money, Naresh accompanied by another man reached their house the next day and forcibly took Jitender away on their motorcycle. The next day, they got information that Jitender was lying dead in a nearby field, she said.

She alleged that the police ignored her requests and registered a case of suicide after the autopsy. The complainant then met Superintendent of Police Sumer Partap Singh who forwarded her complaint to the Kalayat police for registration of a murder case.
