HISAR: A seven-year-old girl died while seven other members of her family sustained injuries when roof collapsed at their house in Bhattu Kalan village of Fatehabad district today.

A seven-year-old girl died while seven other members of her family sustained injuries when roof collapsed at their house in Bhattu Kalan village of Fatehabad district today.

The deceased has been identified as Mohini.

According to information, the family was asleep in the house when the roof of the varandah caved in during the wee hours of Tuesday.

Villagers said intermittent rains had weakened the roof. Sarpanch Roshan Lal said on hearing a thud, neighbours rushed to rescue the family buried in the debris.

All family members were extricated from under the debris and rushed to the Civil Hospital, Fatehabad. Mohini died at the hospital.

Others injured in the mishap have been identified as Mesar Devi (60), her daughter Neetu (32) and Manju (20). Four children were among those hurt in the incident. They are Aarti, Ayna, Pooja and Ajay.

Meanwhile, the weather bulletin from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University (HAU) stated that 64.4 mm of rainfall was recorded in the last three days.

ML Khichar, Head of Department of Agricultural Meteorology, said western disturbances, coupled with the effect of Cyclone Vayu, caused rains in the region.
