State Congress president Kumari Selja on Wednesday made a couple of pre-poll promises — one, she will work for the welfare of women and, two, old-age pension will be raised.
“Being a woman, I am well aware of their concerns. The Congress, if voted to power, will focus on the welfare of women,” she said while addressing a gathering in Gudha village of the Gharaunda Assembly segment. She was campaigning for Congress candidate Anil Rana. Selja took a dig at the BJP government for increasing old-age pension by just Rs200 per year. “The BJP has betrayed people by not fulfilling its promises. It had promised to double the pension, but it increased only Rs200. The Congress will increase pension on coming to power,” she said.
The Congress leader accused the BJP of increasing unemployment in the state. “It has failed to provide deserving candidates with jobs. The Congress will generated jobs and end unemployment.” Selja scoffed at the BJP’s target of winning more than 75 seats. “People will teach a lesson to the BJP. The Congress will come to power with a thumping majority,” she added.
