The Abhibhawak Ekta Manch, an association of parents of students, has alleged blatant violation of norms associated with admission in nursery and primary classes.

The manch has taken up the matter with the district authorities seeking action to curb it.

Kailash Sharma, general secretary of the manch, alleged that while the parents seeking admission of their wards in nursery or pre-primary classes were being exploited in the name of various charges, the authorities concerned were still to act to check such kinds of violations.

“The majority of schools (private) charge anything between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1.25 lakh per student for admission to nursery or pre-primary classes,” he alleged.

“We have written to the Zonal Commissioner, who is also the Chairperson of the Fee and Fund Regulatory Committee set up by the state government for intervention in this matter,” Kailash Sharma said, adding that the guidelines framed by the NCERT were not being followed.

“Though the guidelines had been issued by the Director, Basic Education, Haryana, on December 20, 2018, nothing has changed on the ground. As per the guidelines, while the age of the child should be at least three years at the time of admission to nursery, the student-teacher ratio in each class should be 25:1. The period of pre-primary education ought to be two years only, but most of the schools carry it on for four years,” he alleged.

The schools are not only charging between Rs 500 and Rs 1,200 for admission forms, they are also holding interviews of the child and the parents to know their financial capability. They are offering admission only to those who agree to pay a handsome amount at the time of registration, according to the manch.
