KURUKSHETRA: Ahead of the scheduled screening of the controversial film ‘Padmaavat’, a group of unidentified youths today damaged shops in Kessal Mall at Sector 17 here this evening.

Ahead of the scheduled screening of the controversial film ‘Padmaavat’, a group of unidentified youths today damaged shops in Kessal Mall at Sector 17 here this evening.

According to eyewitnesses, about 12-15 attackers came with covered faces. They were carrying hammers and sticks. They barged into the complex at 7 pm. They broke the windowpanes and doors of various outlets on the first floor. Due to Sunday, the mall was packed with city residents.

SP Abhishek Garg said no firearm was used by the unsocial elements. “We have started scanning the CCTV cameras in the locality to identify the culprits. Police security has been beefed up,” he added.

Rajput sena warns

Gurugram: The district unit of the Shri Rajput Karni Sena has handed out memorandums to city’s multiplexes asking them not to screen Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming ‘Padmaavat’ movie, which is set to release on January 25.

They have demanded to boycott the movie and threatened the residents and owners of the multiplexes.

“Seeing the current situation, the police needs to ensure safety at all cinema houses,” said a cineplex owner. DGP BS Sandhu said, “No one will be allowed to disrupt peace in the state during the screening of the movie. We are on job and will put entire force to ensure no nonsense over the issue.”
