Dharamsala records highest rain in 60 years

SHIMLA: Educational institutions in Kangra were closed on Friday as heavy rains lashed the district, including Dharamshala town which recorded its highest rainfall in 60 years for a day in August, officials said.

Educational institutions in Kangra were closed on Friday as heavy rains lashed the district, including Dharamshala town which recorded its highest rainfall in 60 years for a day in August, officials said.

The Meteorological department here said 292.4 mm rainfall was recorded in Dharamsala in 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Friday.

The Kangra district administration closed all educational institutions in the district today as a precautionary measure, officials said.

Elsewhere in the state, 127 mm rain was recorded in Jogindernagar in Mandi followed by 98 mm in Pamalmpur and 96 mm in Baijnath (both in Kangra), 81.2 mm in Kheri of Chamba district and 64.8 mm in Nagrota Surian in Kangra district since Thursday. PTI
