Higher areas groan under biting cold

SHIMLA: Intense cold wave conditions persisted in most parts of Himachal even as weather remained dry for the sixth day and the maximum day temperature rose marginally.

Intense cold wave conditions persisted in most parts of Himachal even as weather remained dry for the sixth day and the maximum day temperature rose marginally.

The minimum temperatures stayed two to three below normal and high-altitude tribal areas and other higher reaches groaned under biting cold wave conditions with mercury staying 12 to 18 degree below freezing point.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti recorded a low of minus 9.0 degree, while Manali and Kalpa shivered at minus 1.0 degree and minus 0.6 degree, followed by Bhuntar 1.3 degree, Sundernagar 2.3 degree, Palampur 5.0 degree and Shimla 5.2 degree.

The day temperatures rose by one to two degree and Keylong recorded a high of 3.1 degree, followed by Kalpa 7.4 degree, Kufri 9.2 degree, Manali 14.6 degree Dharamsala 15.4 degree and Shimla 16.8 degree, Bhuntar and Solan 21.8 degree and Una 24.3 degree.
