Suresh Bhardwaj, Education Minister, said today that the state was planning to enact a legislation to regulate fee structure of private school in the state to check the exploitation of students. He said he had asked the officers concerned to study the concept of a regulatory authority already functional in other states and come out with a proposal so that the matter was placed before the Cabinet.

Addressing a news conference here this morning, the education minister said the state government in past one-and-a-half years had introduced a number of administrative reforms in the education department to raise the standard of education.

He said when he took over the reins of the state education department in the year 2017 there was high rate of dropout in schools. Today, he said he had succeeded in checking the rate to a larger extent. A number of schools which were on the verge of closures are today functional having good strength of the students.

He said major achievements of the Jai Ram Government in the education sector were to fill the vacant posts of teachers in remote areas. In the past one-and-a-half years over 60 per cent vacant posts had been filled. Besides, the BJP government had regularized and promoted all the principals who were functioning on ad hoc basis.

He said the government would install RO in all the schools in the next one year so that students could get clean drinking water. Besides, all the schools had been provided wash rooms. Those left out would soon be provided these soon.

He said during the Congress regime the education sector in the state remained neglected. Since this portfolio was with former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh he failed to devote time. Even no steps were taken fill vacant posts of teachers resulting in inconvenience to the students.

He said the BJP government had accorded top priority to the education sector in the state and adequate budget had been provided to develop the necessary infrastructure all over the state by the Chief Minister.
