Manali-Leh highway opens

KULLU: The BRO today opened the strategically important 479-km Manali-Leh national highway, which was blocked yesterday near Banta Mod because of a massive landslide.

KULLU, AUGUST 21

The BRO today opened the strategically important 479-km Manali-Leh national highway, which was blocked yesterday near Banta Mod because of a massive landslide.

The 38 Border Road Task Force Commander Colonel Uma Shankar said the road was cleared of debris. He added that the area had become landslide-prone and advised the commuters not to travel during night. He said the workforce and machinery had been deployed to clear the road in case of landslide again.

The road remains closed to traffic for about seven months during winters due to heavy snow on the Rohtang Pass and other passes. — OC
