4 soldiers injured in gunfight in Nowgam sector

SRINAGAR: At least four Army men were injured in a gunfight close to the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir frontier Kupwara district on Thursday, sources said.

At least four Army men were injured in a gunfight close to the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir frontier Kupwara district on Thursday, sources said.

The gunfight erupted in Nowgam sector, 120 km northwest of Srinagar, when a group of infiltrators was spotted by the soldiers this morning and it was challenged. The infiltrators opened indiscriminate firing, triggering a gunfight.

“In the first initial gunfight, four soldiers were injured,” the sources said, adding that the operation is under way.

The injured soldiers were shifted to hospital for treatment. .

Additional reinforcement of security forces has been rushed to the area to flush out the militants.
