Abolish toll plaza at Sarore: Cong

Demanding removal of the toll plaza at Sarore, the Congress on Wednesday held a protest against the government and alleged that the BJP was ‘betraying’ people’s mandate.

Hundreds of members of the Congress led by former minister Raman Bhalla warned to intensify the agitation if a decision was not taken by the Central government to abolish the toll post on the Jammu-Pathankot highway at Sarore. The protest was organised by Congress Samba district president Manjeet Singh.

Bhalla questioned the stance of the BJP state leadership which had earlier opposed the toll post but had now maintained silence on the issue. “The government at the Centre has imposed heavy traffic penalties on people by amending the Motor Vehicles Act-2019 and now, it is forcibly installing a toll plaza in the Jammu region,” Bhalla said.

The protesters said the toll posts proposed on the highway had broken the back of people and also hurt the religious feelings of the Hindus all over the country who visit Mata Vaishno Devi shrine to pay obeisance.
