Srinagar, August 20

A 12-year-old girl who went missing on Saturday from a Srinagar locality was traced by the police within hours.

The police said the girl was found inside a famous shrine and was “scared to go home”.

She said she had fared poorly in her class tests due to which she was afraid to go home.

The Lalbazar police station received a complaint around 8.30 pm on Saturday from a resident that his 12-year-old daughter had not returned from her school.

“Immediately after the complaint was lodged, the police swung into action. They used technical and human support and deputed various parties at different locations. One such party along with the relatives of the missing girl started looking out for her in the Hazratbal shrine area. The girl was finally traced at the shrine,” a police officer said.

The girl was later handed over to her parents. “Primarily, it was found that she had not scored well in her class tests and due to the fear of her father, she left her home,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, the J&K Police have sought help in identifying culprits involved in a theft case in Srinagar.

A complaint was received by the Chanpora police post on August 16 from Irshad Ahmad Bhat of Usmania Colony Bagh-i-Mehtab.

He had alleged that in the afternoon, some persons had barged into his house and looted gold ornaments worth Rs 11 lakh.

The police released the CCTV pictures of the culprits on Saturday and sought help in identifying them.
