Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh has said the development of the state would be accelerated by the recently announced Prime Minister’s package which encompasses every essential sector. He said the package would go a long way in making J&K one of the model states of the country.

The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a gathering at Thadda Kilyal and Thadda Kalwal villages in the Billawar area of Kathua district today.

Senior officers of the administration, political activists and people from different walks of life were present at the gathering.

Nirmal Singh said: “Our mission is to ensure the holistic development of the state on an equitable basis so that people get requisite and essential amenities without facing any inconvenience. The recent package announced by the Prime Minister will go a long way in acting as a catalyst and further speed up the development initiatives and overall scenario of development being undertaken by the government.”

The people also have a role to play in this scenario by involving themselves actively in the implementation of various welfare programmes and by giving requisite feedback about their implementation on the ground, he added.

The Deputy CM referred to various initiatives taken by the government for the development of the Billawar and Basohli areas. He said a sports stadium would be constructed at Billawar with all requisite infrastructural facilities for the youth who could hone their talent and participate in various national and international events.

He said the area would get a rail link and a survey in this regard would be started soon.

“The Billawar and Basohli areas would be brought under the tourist circuit in order to give tourism and related activities a fillip. This would ensure creation of jobs for the youth, besides elevating the economic profile of the people of the area,” he said.

The hospital at Billawar would also be upgraded with modern medical equipment, besides related facilities, he added.

“The area would also be the taking point of the express highway of Delhi-Katra and connect the state with various other states, thereby increasing connectivity and further increase economic and trade-related activities”, he added.
