The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has sought the state government’s response within three weeks to a suggestion for having a policy in place to increase the fee charged by schools by a certain percentage on an annual basis.

The court has also directed the Committee for Fixation of Fee Structure of Private Unaided Educational Institutions of J&K to consider the representation of private schools for enhancement of fee within three weeks.

The directions were issued today by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmad and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey on a petition by a group of private schools, seeking consideration of their applications before the fee fixation committee for a hike in school fee.

The committee was set up by the J&K Government in 2013. “We are informed that the term of the chairman of the committee has been extended by another year,” the High Court said after perusal of the status report by the government. “The committee shall consider the representation of schools for enhancement of fee within three weeks,” the Bench further directed in its order.
