Srinagar, December 12

The survey for installation of smart and intelligent traffic lighting system and the design for the junctions where these lighting systems are to be installed in Srinagar has been completed.

A Delhi-based agency, Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd, completed the survey of the proposed junctions and the design of new junctions and is only waiting for a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Roads and Buildings Department of the state to begin the work.

Faced with traffic congestion on roads, the Srinagar smart city and intelligent traffic lighting plan is expected to help in smooth flow of vehicular traffic on the busiest streets and junctions of the capital.

“The Delhi-based agency has completed the survey of the proposed junctions. The agency has requested for an NOC from the R&B Department and on getting it, the agency has been requested to mobilise all its resources and start physical ground work,” the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has stated in one of its reports on the implementation of the integrated traffic management system in the city. As reported earlier, under the first phase of the system, 10 smart lights will be installed at the busiest junctions in the city.

Initially, the Traffic Department had identified 45 spots and demanded installation of the smart and intelligent traffic lights at these spots. But the SMC, which is the nodal agency for implementing the system, had said it did not have that much of money and instead asked for 10 spots where in the first phase these smart lights could be installed.
