Jammu, February 10

All is not well in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) as once again the allegations of favouritism and nepotism are being levelled during the selection process of the under-14 cricket team.

It is being alleged that selectors have ignored talent and instead given chance to children of bureaucrats, police officers and other influential people.

Not only this but an over-aged boy, who is son of a police officer, has been selected after he submitted a forged date of birth certificate. Besides, another boy who has been selected is son of a senior bureaucrat.

Interestingly, there is no video recording of the trials.

Moreover, the final selection list of the team was announced late Saturday night whereas the team was to play its first match on Sunday with the Himachal Pradesh team at Government Gandhi Memorial Science Collage ground here.

“The selection has raised eyebrows as the list was released at the last moment when nobody could file any objection,” said the father of a boy.

When asked about the selections, JKCA officials didn’t respond. “Why should we give you the details when there are no such rules? If you want it, file an RTI application,” said a senior JKCA official.
