Heavy vehicles violate rules

Disobeying the instructions passed by the traffic police, heavy vehicles could be blatantly seen plying in no-entry zones during the prohibited timings.

In October, a special drive against heavy vehicles was conducted by the traffic wing of the city police. These vehicles were restrained from entering the no-entry zones.

Owing to three accidental deaths that occurred within three months due to heavily-loaded trucks, the ADCP, Traffic, had issued the orders that the trucks, transporting goods between 8 am to 8 pm would not only be challaned, but strict action would also be taken.

A number of truck drivers who had come for loading and unloading of goods park their vehicles that time near Maqsudan Sabzi Mandi.

Only vehicles that were having authority letters from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) were allowed to move. However, neglecting the instructions, some of the truck drivers are still transporting goods in and out the city during 8 am to 8 pm.

Reportedly, a 30-year-old vegetable wholesaler and a 52-year-old woman were crushed to death by speeding trucks near Maqsudan Sabzi Mandi and DAV College in August and September, respectively.

Residents said the trucks were not only shrinking the roads to its half but also risking their lives. Reportedly they were violating the speed-limit parameters.

“The Maqsudan Chowk-Patel Chowk stretch is a congested route during daytime and when heavily-loaded trucks move, its becomes inconvenient to travel,” said Vikramjit Singh, a resident of Seth.

On the violations of the rules, ASI Raj Kumar said, a relaxation timing has been provided to the truck drivers between 10 pm-12 am for supply of goods.

Contrary to their version ADCP, Traffic, Kulwant Singh Heer, said the relaxation timing was 11am-1pm and if the truck drivers violated the order then action would be taken against them.
