In order to acquaint the newly elected sarpanches with the working of the Guardians of Governance (GoGs), a joint meeting of the sarpanches and the GoGs was held on Tuesday. During the meeting, they pledged jointly to make villages a hub of development and prosperity, giving a fillip to their overall development.

The meeting was presided over by Jalandhar head of GoG General (retd) Balwinder Singh and Jalandhar-East head of GoG Colonel (retd) Balbir Singh, who apprised the sarpanches that it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction for the ex-servicemen that they had a great responsibility upon them to work as eyes and ears of the state government for ensuring complete transparency in the execution of developmental works.

They said the GoGs were foreseeing 24 main departments connected with people. GoGs were the real custodians of the public exchequer. They said GoGs were here to ensure that each and every penny sanctioned by the state government was fully utilised for the well-being of people.

They also apprised the sarpanches that besides enhancing transparency and accountability of the government, the biggest task before the GoGs was to put the state back on a high growth trajectory.

On the occasion, the newly elected sarpanches wished to cooperate wholeheartedly in implementing all schemes to make it a success, especially in checking drug abuse, improving education, cleanliness and guiding youth, besides ensuring all-around development of the villages.
