Vice-President honours Nandan for empowering differently abled

HOSHIARPUR: Battling all odds, Inderjit Kaur Nandan from Hoshiarpur has brought laurels to the district by receiving the ‘National Award for The Empowerment of Persons with Disability – 2018, (self-employed with disability category).

Hoshiarpur, December 5

Battling all odds, Inderjit Kaur Nandan from Hoshiarpur has brought laurels to the district by receiving the ‘National Award for The Empowerment of Persons with Disability – 2018, (self-employed with disability category).

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu awarded her at a function held in Delhi. Nandan has been associated with various institutions for betterment of disabled since 1997.

Indrajit Kaur Nandan, said: “Now I will have to work hard for the welfare of the disabled.” She had formed Divya Kala Sahitya Sabhyachar Manch Punjab and working with the NGOs. She had also been behind the district administration’s programme ‘Har Veervar-Divyang Da Satkar’.

The first state-level Divya Kala Sahitya Ate Savhyachar Samroh, dedicated to Bhagat Puran Singh of Pingalwara, was organised with her efforts.

She had presided over the national-level 7th Akhil Bharati Divyaang Sahitya Sammelan in Nasik.

She did a survey in the district, to bring the attention of the administration towards the difficulties faced by the disabled people.

She is also the Icon of the Election Commission for the disabled people of Hoshiarpur. Inderjit said she had always been getting inspiration from Amarjit Singh Anand. Her six books have been released so far.
