Monica Seth (51), a Jalandhar-native based in Delhi, has bagged Rashtriya Shiksha Ratna Award for her services with orphanage, ‘Family Asha Niwas’, for the past 16 years.
Monica was awarded during a ceremony in Delhi on Thursday. She has bagged various pageants and awards in the past as well. Schooled at Jalandhar, she has been associated with various endeavours on religious front and is also holding special classes for impoverished girls. Having won various pageants as a beauty queen and priding herself for being a “page 5 socialite”, Monica has been serving as an inspiration for women of her age.
She has played a vital role in encouraging donations and teaching children while working with the orphanage. Monica said: “I have been organising regular events and have been a part of various pageants as well. My foray into social services paid rich dividends. While I am associated with the NGO on an independent basis, not as a staffer, I have been taking classes and teaching children whenever possible.”
Monica, who also runs various charity drives, is also a pageant coach.
