A five-day training programme on ‘Small animal radiography and ultrasonography’ concluded at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) here today.

Fifteen veterinary practitioners /surgeons from six states — Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab — participated in the training programme.

J Mohindroo, director of the training programme, said the training was under the aegis of the All-India Network Programme on ‘Diagnostic imaging and management of surgical conditions in animals (AINP-DIMSCA)’ and was sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

“The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, GADVASU, has been working as a collaborating centre since 2014 and the human resource development is an important mandate of this project,” he said. Dr Mohindroo said the department was committed to the human resource development and has trained more than 400 veterinarians under various training modules.

Dr Vandana Sangwan, coordinator of the training programme, said the course module was designed keeping in mind the basic needs of the general veterinary practitioners and surgeons. The participants were given hands-on training in radiographic interpretation and ultrasound examination of abdomen in small animals.

Dr SS Singh, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, said the department has progressed enormously during the last two decades in the areas of small and large animal imaging. He said the department has been a recognised ‘Centre of Advanced Faculty Training’ since 1994. He advised the participants to practise the techniques learned during this training for the welfare of animals.
