Girl weds lover, brother kidnaps her from in-laws’ residence

Ludhiana, June 14

Two months after a girl married a boy against the wishes of her parents, her brother from Haryana, along with two of his aides, reaches her in-laws’ house, serves them sweets laced with poison, and kidnaps his sister.

The suspect, identified as Ajay Bazigar, and two unknown persons, have been booked under Section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 365 (kidnapping) of the IPC.

The complainant, Joe, a resident of Haqiqat Nagar, Haibowal Kalan, told the police that he, along with his mother Sonia, brother Phillip and his wife Sunita Rani, lived in rented accommodation here. He married Sunita in the court about two months ago. His in-laws were against the marriage.

“On June 12, my wife’s brother Ajay reached our house with a box of sweets. He offered sweets to all members of my family. After having sweets, we all fell unconscious. Next morning when I woke up, I found all members of my family lying unconscious and my wife missing.

“When I raised a hue and cry, the neighbours gathered there. They told me that around 5 am, three persons were carrying something big rapped in black cloth. I suspect my brother-in-law had kidnapped my wife and took her to Haryana,” the complainant alleged.

Sub-Inspector Kuldeep Singh said efforts were on to trace the suspects. — TNS
