Ludhiana, May 23
Though Lok Insaaf Party chief Simarjeet Singh Bains lost the election, the party’s performance has improved compared to the Lok Sabha election of 2014. Bains is runner-up with 3,07,423 votes this time while he had stood fourth with 2,10,917 votes in 2014.
Of nine Assembly constituencies under the Ludhiana parliamentary seat, LIP has polled the highest votes in four. It has polled 59,184 votes in Gill, 44,938 votes in Dakha, 38,475 votes in Atam Nagar and 35,469 votes in Ludhiana South. Besides, Bains has got the highest 637 votes through postal ballots.
Bains said the Congress won because of their ‘goondagardi’ against the workers and supporters of LIP. The police and administrative staff were forcing people to replace LIP flags with Congress ones at their houses, he alleged.
“The government machinery was misused in the election. The Congress distributed liquor and money to get votes. Despite their ‘goondagardi’, we got the highest number of votes in four Assembly constituencies. We salute the people for support they gave to LIP,” said Bains.
His brother, MLA Balwinder Singh Bains, said they welcomed the verdict. They will do more hard work in future. The party accepts the decision of people of Ludhiana, he added.
