Khamano, July 16
Low-lying areas were inundated due to continous rainfall in Khamano. Most affected areas include Ward No. 4, Ward No. 7 and Ward No. 3 as residents found it difficult to come out of their homes.
A major street in Ward No. 4 was filled with rainwater as a village pond was filled to the capacity and began overflowing. Similar was the situation in Ward No. 3.
Raman, a youth from Ward No. 4, said village ponds were not cleaned this season and as a result, intermittent rain added to their woes.
Iqbal Singh, a resident of Ward No. 3 alleged that the civic body failed to empty village ponds on time and this led to overflowing of rainwater.
A resident of Ward No.7, Gurdeep Singh, said they were fed up with false promises of the authorities concerned.
Khamano EO Sangeet Kumar said a village pond was cleaned by them. He said they could not clean remaining two village ponds as they had no vacant area to drain the ponds.
Kumar said they were trying to remove rainwater with alternative means.
The BKU presented a memorandum to Khamano SDM Jashanpreet Kaur and informed her that crop in around 100 acres at Jatana Newan village has got submerged in rainwater.
The SDM said she has directed tehsildar and naib tehsildar to visit the affected areas.
