A 38-year-old man allegedly made a suicidal attempt by setting himself ablaze under mysterious circumstances at his workshop located at Lakkar Bazar on Monday morning. He has suffered severe burns.

The injured man, whose condition is stated to be critical, has been identified as Ramandeep Singh, alias Rinku. People gathered outside the workshop when they heard Rinku screaming. It was not clear why he took this extreme step.

Rinku was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). He has been admitted to the ICU, said members of Rinku’s family.

According to doctors, his condition is still serious. Rinku’s cousin, Surinder Singh, said they couldn’t say why this incident took place. Rinku used to run a shop and workshop of sewing machines at Lakkar Bazar, he said.

Rinku’s parents were at the shop when the incident took place at the workshop that is located at the back of the shop, said Surinder.

Division Number 1 SHO Beerbal Singh said they visited the place but Rinku’s shop was found shut. “We had not received any information in this regard either from the family or the hospital till evening. We don’t know what exactly happened,” he said.
